第4回 JACI/GSCシンポジウム・第7回GSC東京国際会議
7th International Conference on Green and Sustainable Chemistry (GSC-7)
4th JACI/GSC Symposium
GSCの新たな発展へ

Green & Sustainable Chemistry (GSC) refers to chemistry and chemical technologies that are friendly toward people and the environment and support the sustainable development of societies. Its role is to provide society and daily life with useful chemical substances and chemical technologies that satisfy basic requirements for reducing environmental burden and improving environmental compatibility. Seeing that GSC has already made significant contributions to the sustainable development of societies, it is important to raise societal awareness of these activities.

The Japanese Association for Chemical Innovation (JACI) has sponsored the JACI/GSC symposium to disseminate information to its member companies and society and to strengthen collaboration and exchange between industry, academia, and government related to the chemical industry with the goal of contributing to the development of sustainable societies and improvement of citizens’ daily life through innovations in new chemical technologies centered on GSC.

The 1st International GSC Conference, Tokyo (GSC-1) was held in 2003. Since then, the International GSC Conference has been held biennially on a rotating basis in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, where it has promoted not only the popularization and institutionalization of GSC within industry, academia and society both domestically and overseas but also deeper collaboration among nations as well as industry, academia, and government through its lectures and discussions on issues specific to the host country with an emphasis on practical applications in industry and academia.

In 2015, the International GSC Conference will again be held in Tokyo. The event, which will combine both the 4th JACI/GSC Symposium and 7th International GSC Conference Tokyo (GSC-7), will serve as a venue for members of industry, academia, and government from countries and regions around the world to learn from one another, including about ways of collaborating, to promote chemical technology innovation toward the sustainable development of the world.

More than ten years have passed since GSC-1 called on people to “put GSC into practice.” This time the main theme will be "Toward New Developments in GSC" at the event where leaders in their fields in countries and regions around the world will offer lectures, discussions, and research reports on their major activities and findings after GSC-1, initiatives for the future that reflect changes in global conditions, and cutting-edge science from around the world. It will also introduce the GSC activities of organizations in each country as well as corporate activities to serve as a venue that encourages mutual understanding among conference participants.

The upcoming conference will serve as a new opportunity to illuminate the future direction of GSC and promote its further development.
